As the summer holidays begin, there is a noticeable change around school. The classrooms are tidier, the corridors are quieter and the playground sits still in the sunshine. Well, quiet-ish! There is still plenty happening behind the scenes, with maintenance projects and improvement works taking place over the summer. Yet despite the activity, there is always something a little strange about a school without children. A school needs children to bring it to life. Their laughter, curiosity, energy and personalities are what transform a building into a place of learning and belonging.

As we reach the end of another academic year, it is a good opportunity to pause and reflect. It has been a positive year for our school community. Like any year, it has not been without its challenges, but it has undoubtedly been a year of growth, development and progress.

I am incredibly proud of our staff team and the commitment they show every single day. Their care, expertise and determination to provide the very best for our children are what make our school such a special place. Whether working directly with children, supporting families or ensuring the smooth running of the school behind the scenes, every member of staff plays an important role in helping our children thrive.

I am equally proud of our children and all they have achieved this year. They have worked hard, embraced new challenges and made excellent progress in their learning. As an Infant School, much of the conversation around outcomes inevitably focuses on statutory assessments. While these assessments have their place, they do not always tell the full story. Some of the most significant achievements children make cannot be captured in a set of scores or data.

One of our core missions is to help children develop confidence in themselves, to treat others with kindness and respect, and to understand how to be positive members of society. We want every child to leave us not only with strong academic foundations, but also with a sense of who they are, an understanding of their strengths and the confidence to continue their journey beyond our school.

We see this growth every day. We see it in the child who finds the courage to share an idea in front of the class, the child who learns to resolve a disagreement with kindness, the child who perseveres when learning feels difficult and the child who discovers a talent or passion they never knew they had. These moments may not make headlines, but they matter enormously. They are the building blocks of happy, successful futures.

I would also like to thank our families for the support you have given throughout the year. Schools achieve the most when we work together, and we are grateful for the trust you place in us. In particular, I want to thank those families who have engaged in honest and open conversations with us this year. Even when discussions can be challenging, a shared commitment to doing what is best for children is always at the heart of what we do.

As we look ahead, there is much to be excited about. For now, though, it is time for everyone to enjoy a well-earned break. I hope the summer provides opportunities for rest, adventure, family time and creating special memories together.

Thank you for being part of our school community this year. We look forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces back in September, ready for the next chapter of our journey together.
