As we draw to the close of Autumn Term 1, I think it is fair to say that it has been a long term! Children and adults alike are certainly ready for a well-earned October break, and I am sure we are all looking forward to the chance to slow down, recharge and enjoy a little time away from our usual routines.
As we move further into autumn, I find myself reflecting on how the changing seasons can affect the way we feel.
For some, autumn is a favourite time of year. The chance to dig out a chunky jumper, wrap up warm and enjoy feeling cosy as the temperature drops. Others love the beautiful colours appearing on the trees, the crunch of leaves underfoot and the fresh autumn air. But, of course, for some people, the colder weather and darker evenings are not quite so welcome!
And that is one of the wonderful things about people. We don't all think alike, feel alike or enjoy the same things. And that is absolutely fine!
This is something we work hard to help our children understand in school. It is important that they develop their own thoughts, feelings and opinions, and recognise that these may be different from those of their friends, classmates or even the adults around them.
Having a different opinion doesn't mean someone is wrong. What matters is how we share those opinions, how we listen to others and how we show respect, even when we don't agree.
We want our children to feel confident enough to have their own voice, but also kind and thoughtful enough to make space for the voices of others. After all, we can learn so much from people who see the world differently from us.
And wouldn't the world be a rather boring place if we all thought exactly the same?
So, whether you are someone who can't wait to pull on your woolly socks and enjoy a cosy autumn afternoon, or someone already counting down the days until the sunshine returns, I hope you all have a wonderful October break.
Enjoy the rest, enjoy the change of pace, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for Autumn Term 2!
